Peter Maffay
Peter Maffay, born Peter Alexander Makkay on August 30, 1949, in Brașov, Romania, is a renowned German musician, singer, and composer. Maffay emigrated to West Germany with his family in 1963, where he began his musical journey by forming his first band, The Dukes. His career took off in 1969 with the release of his first single, "Du," which became the biggest German hit of 1970.
Maffay's prominence in the German music scene was solidified with the release of his 1979 album "Steppenwolf," which sold 1.6 million copies. His subsequent album, "Revanche," released in 1980, surpassed this success by selling over 2.1 million copies. Known for his emotive lyrics and powerful melodies, Maffay has become a cornerstone of the German music industry, holding the record for the most number one ranked albums in Germany, with 16 albums reaching the top spot.
Beyond his music, Maffay is also known for creating the beloved "Tabaluga" series, a collection of fairy tales about a little green dragon, which expanded into a musical and live performances.
