Carole King
Carole King, born Carol Joan Klein on February 9, 1942, in New York City, is a celebrated American singer-songwriter and musician. Her remarkable career spans several decades, during which she became one of the most successful female songwriters in history. Raised in Brooklyn, King's musical talent was evident from an early age as she developed an interest in music and learned to play the piano. She formed her first vocal group, the Co-Sines, while in high school and later attended Queens College, where she met future collaborators like Neil Sedaka and Gerry Goffin.

King's professional breakthrough came in the 1960s when she partnered with her first husband, Gerry Goffin, to write numerous hit songs. Their collaboration produced classics such as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" for The Shirelles, "Take Good Care of My Baby" for Bobby Vee, and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" for Aretha Franklin. The duo's success solidified their reputation in the music industry, particularly within the Brill Building's songwriting community.

In 1968, after her marriage to Goffin ended, King relocated to Los Angeles, where she became part of a vibrant musical scene alongside artists like James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. Encouraged by Taylor, she embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut album, "Writer," in 1970. However, it was her second album, "Tapestry" (1971), that catapulted her to stardom. The album topped the U.S. charts for 15 weeks and remained on the charts for over six years, earning her four Grammy Awards.

Throughout her career, Carole King has released 25 solo albums and sold over 75 million records worldwide. Her contributions to music have been recognized with numerous honors, including inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and the Kennedy Center Honors. King's enduring legacy is marked by her ability to craft songs that resonate with audiences across generations.
