Dave O'Connor
David O'Connor is an Irish singer and former racing jockey from Ferns, County Wexford, Ireland. He gained national recognition by winning the fifth series of the RTÉ One television talent show "You're a Star" on March 18, 2007. During the competition, he achieved chart success in Ireland with a recording of one of his live performances. Before his singing career, O'Connor was a jockey, having worked with the renowned trainer Colm Murphy, but his racing career was cut short by a back injury in 1998. Despite this setback, he maintained an interest in horse training and established his own training yard in 2008.
O'Connor's musical journey included representing Ireland in the Karaoke World Championships in Finland in 2004, where he finished sixth. His victory on "You're a Star" was accompanied by prizes including a recording contract, a publishing contract, and musical equipment valued at €10,000. Following his win, he released the single "Complicated" in December 2007 and another single in February 2008, leading up to the launch of an album in March 2008. He embarked on an Irish tour starting on April 6, 2008, supported by a five-piece band, a brass section, and a string quartet.
