Carl Holder
Carl Holder is a distinguished playwright and actor, originally from Gainesville, Florida. He holds a BFA in Acting from SUNY Purchase, earned in 2008, and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU/Tisch, completed in 2020. Holder has made significant contributions to the theater world, both as a performer and a writer. His solo play, "Out of Order," was notably well-received during its month-long run at East Village Basement, garnering praise from The New York Times, Theatermania, and Vulture.
Holder's play "Until You Come Back to Me" won the 2020 Goldberg Play Prize and was a finalist for the 2019 Neukom Literary Arts Playwriting Award. He has been recognized as a Semi-Finalist for The Jerome Fellowship at the Playwrights Center and for the 2019 O'Neill Playwrights Conference. His work "Charleses" received an Honorable Mention for The Relentless Award from The American Playwriting Foundation. Additionally, he has been awarded E-Grants from The Foundation for Contemporary Art for his plays "An Intimate Evening with Typhoid Mary" and "re:opening."
As the Artistic Director of Glass Bandits Theater Company since 2008, Holder has been involved in writing, acting, and directing. He has developed and performed work with numerous prestigious institutions, including Ars Nova, Incubator Arts Project, and The New Ohio. Holder is also involved in education, teaching at NYU/Tisch’s Department of Dramatic Writing and conducting Playwriting Intensives through The Brick’s education program. He resides in Brooklyn with his dog Amelia.
