Pierre and the Zydeco Dots
Pierre and the Zydeco Dots is a Cajun/zydeco rhythm and blues band that originated in Houston, Texas, in 1987. Initially known as Pierre and the Zydeco Dots, the band eventually became known simply as The Zydeco Dots in the 1990s. The group has been instrumental in popularizing zydeco music in the Gulf Coast region, bringing the genre to new venues and audiences. Over the years, The Zydeco Dots have won numerous awards and have been recognized as the best zydeco band by the Houston Press.
The band has seen various lineup changes, with members including Jean-Pierre Blanchard, Joe Hurst, Joe Rossyion, Mike Vowell, Pierre Stoot, and Tom Potter. Despite the departure of accordionist Pierre Blanchard, the band continued to thrive, with Li’l Jabo, son of zydeco legend Jabo, joining as a new accordion player. The Zydeco Dots maintain a rigorous performance schedule, playing live approximately 300 days a year.
Their discography includes albums such as "Down in Houston" released in 2018 and "Zydeco Masters: Pierre & The Zydeco Dots" from 2004. The band is celebrated for its energetic performances and has been a staple in Houston's music scene for over three decades.
