Stephen Richards
Stephen Steele Richards, born on October 16, 1977, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist best known for his work with the alternative metal band Taproot. Raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Richards began playing drums at the age of four and started his musical career as a drummer in bands such as Malicious Intent and Hollow. In 1997, he co-founded Taproot with Mike DeWolf, Phil Lipscomb, and Jarrod Montague. The band gained prominence with their hit single "Poem" in 2002 and has released several albums since their formation.

Richards is known for his energetic stage presence, often engaging with fans by moshing and jumping off balconies during performances. Beyond Taproot, he has contributed vocals to various projects, including a remix of Linkin Park's "Pushing Me Away" and tracks by other artists like Pulse Ultra and Sponge. Despite facing medical challenges, such as seizures and a hand injury requiring surgery, Richards continues to be active in music. Additionally, he is an avid hockey player, having been drafted by junior hockey clubs before his music career took precedence.
