Fred Hamm
Fred Hamm was a notable Chicago jazz orchestra leader and musician, recognized for his contributions to the jazz genre in the early 20th century. He assumed leadership of the Benson Orchestra in 1925, a group originally founded by Edgar Benson. As a talented musician, Hamm not only led the orchestra but also performed as a singer and cornet player. His band included accomplished musicians such as Dave Bennett on clarinet and alto saxophone, Chauncey Gray on piano, and Bert Lown on violin. Together with Bennett, Gray, and Lown, Hamm co-authored the popular jazz standard "Bye Bye Blues" in early 1925, marking a significant achievement in his musical career. In his later years, Fred Hamm resided at the Hotel Baker Retirement Home in St. Charles, Illinois, located along the picturesque Fox River.
