Frank Dostal
Frank Dostal (16 December 1945 – 18 April 2017) was a notable German songwriter and music producer, born in Flensburg and raised in Hamburg. He initially gained attention as a singer with the rock band The Rattles and later with Wonderland, a band he co-founded with Achim Reichel. In Wonderland, Dostal not only sang lead vocals but also played bongos, bass guitar, and organ, while writing lyrics for the band's compositions.
Transitioning from performance to songwriting, Dostal became a prominent lyricist in the 1970s, contributing to the German Hit parade with his work for artists like Father Abraham and Nana Mouskouri. He achieved international fame as a co-writer for the vocal duo Baccara, penning hits such as "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie," "Sorry, I'm a Lady," and "Parlez-vous français?" These songs, produced by Rolf Soja, became global successes.
Dostal was also involved in producing children's records and was a dedicated advocate for musical authors' rights, serving as the deputy chairman of GEMA's supervisory board. He was married to Mary McGlory, former bass player of The Liverbirds, and they had two children. Frank Dostal's contributions to music spanned decades, leaving a lasting impact on both German and international music scenes.
