Jerry Bresler
Jerome (Jerry) Bresler (May 29, 1914 – March 17, 2000) was an accomplished American conductor, songwriter, and musician, born in Chicago, Illinois. Displaying musical talent from a very young age, Bresler played the piano at 2 and conducted the NYU orchestra by the age of 14. His education included studies at Theodore Roosevelt High School, Chicago Musical College, DePaul University, and NYU, where he learned music theory, composition, conducting, and orchestration under esteemed mentors such as Dr. Samuel Lieberson and Rudolf Schramm.
Bresler was known for his composition "Five Guys Named Moe" and made significant contributions to the music industry after joining ASCAP in 1950. He produced shows for nightclub acts including Robert Goulet, Sophie Tucker, and Arlene Dahl. In 1956, he partnered with Lyn Duddy to write and produce for television and nightclub acts, working on shows like the Merv Griffin Show, Jackie Gleason Show, and the Honeymooners. Bresler also collaborated with Larry Wynn on songwriting projects. He passed away in Delray Beach, Florida, leaving behind a legacy as a versatile and influential figure in American music.
