Wilbert Baranco
Wilbert Baranco (April 15, 1909 – October 1983) was an influential American jazz pianist and bandleader. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Baranco moved to Oakland, California, where he attended Oakland Technical High School. His early musical interests were evident as he participated in local performances and played piano at social events.

In the early 1930s, Baranco played with Curtis Mosby and later formed his own bands throughout the 1930s and 1940s, including several military bands during World War II. He recorded with notable artists such as Ernie Andrews and led a trio featuring Charles Mingus. Baranco also served as the accompanist for Dinah Washington with the Lucky Thompson All-Stars.

After World War II, he formed Wilbert Baranco & His Rhythm Bombardiers, a group of former servicemen, which recorded with jazz greats like Vic Dickenson, Dizzy Gillespie, and Willie "The Lion" Smith. His contributions to jazz were further solidified through recordings with Jackie Kelson and Snooky Young in the 1940s.

By the 1950s, Baranco transitioned to a career in music education. He was also the father of Victor Baranco, founder of Lafayette Morehouse. Wilbert Baranco passed away in El Cerrito, California, in 1983.
