Lady John Scott
Lady John Scott, born Alicia Anne Spottiswoode on June 24, 1810, in Westruther, Berwickshire, England, was a notable Scottish composer and ballad writer. She was the eldest daughter of John Spottiswoode of Spottiswoode, Berwickshire, and Helen Wauchope, the second daughter of Andrew Wauchope of Niddrie-Mains, near Edinburgh. In March 1836, Alicia married Lord John Douglas Scott, the second son of Charles, the fourth Duke of Buccleuch. Lady John Scott is renowned for her contributions to music, particularly her famous ballads such as "Annie Laurie," "Durisdeer," and "Think on Me." Her work has been featured in various films, including "Bonnie Annie Laurie" (1918) and "Annie Laurie" (1926). She passed away on March 12, 1900.
