Lee Roberts
Arthur Lee Conley, also known in his later years as Lee Roberts, was an American soul singer born on January 4, 1946, in McIntosh County, Georgia, U.S. He grew up in Atlanta and began his music career in 1959 as the lead singer of the group Arthur & the Corvets. The group released three singles in 1963 and 1964 on NRC Records. In 1964, Conley moved to Ru-Jac Records and released "I'm a Lonely Stranger." His career took a significant turn when Otis Redding heard this song and had Conley record a new version for Redding's Jotis Records. Conley is best known for his 1967 hit "Sweet Soul Music." He passed away on November 17, 2003, in Ruurlo, Netherlands.
