Herbert Reynolds
Herbert Reynolds, born Michael Elder Rourke on July 14, 1867, was an Irish-American lyricist who made significant contributions to early 20th-century musical theatre. In 1913, he adopted the pen name Herbert Reynolds. He is best known for writing the lyrics to Jerome Kern's first major hit, "They Didn't Believe Me," which was featured in the 1914 American production of *The Girl from Utah* by Charles Frohman. The show, starring Julia Sanderson and Donald Brian, enjoyed a successful run of 140 performances at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
Reynolds collaborated with P. G. Wodehouse on the 1916 musical *Miss Springtime*, which included additional music by Kern. He continued his collaboration with Kern and other lyricists on the Broadway musical *Very Good Eddie* and later on *Rock-a-Bye Baby* in 1918. Herbert Reynolds passed away on August 26, 1933.
