Jimmie Crane
Jimmie Crane, born Loreto Domenico Fraieli on August 1, 1910, in Providence, Rhode Island, was a notable American songwriter and business owner. His career in music began with the song "It's Great To Be An American," co-written with Ray Muffs, which was performed by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra in 1941. In the late 1940s, Crane formed a successful songwriting partnership with Al Jacobs. Together, they penned several hits in the 1950s, including "If I Give My Heart to You," "I Need You Now," and "Hurt." These songs were recorded by prominent artists such as Doris Day, Eddie Fisher, and Roy Hamilton, and covered by others including Elvis Presley and Timi Yuro. In addition to his music career, Crane managed a jewelry business, Colonial Novelty, in Providence. He passed away on April 3, 1998, at the age of 87.
