Eugeniusz Glowski Glowski
Eugeniusz Głowski was a distinguished Polish composer and pedagogue, born on July 12, 1938, in Toruń, and passed away on May 5, 2018, in Gdańsk. He pursued his musical studies in music theory and composition at the State Higher School of Music in Gdańsk, under the guidance of Konrad Pałubicki and Marek Podhajski, completing them in 1967 and 1971.

Głowski was a laureate of numerous composition competitions, receiving awards from prestigious events such as the Feliks Nowowiejski Competition (1973), the Józef Elsner Competition (1975), Polish Radio (1977), the Polish Episcopate (1984), the Karol Lipiński Competition (1990), the Tola Korian Competition in London (1990), and the Second Competition for Carols and Pastorals in Będzin (2005).

His compositions were performed at many festivals, competitions, and concerts both in Poland (in cities such as Bydgoszcz, Gdańsk, Katowice, Lublin, Legnica, Łódź, Międzyzdroje, Olsztyn, Poznań, Toruń, Warsaw, Wrocław) and internationally, including in Europe, the United States, Chile, and Peru. Several of his works were published by Polish Music Publishers, Author's Agency, and Pomorze Publishing House, and recorded by Polish Radio. Notable compositions include "Sonatina for Piano" (1968), "Wierzba przydrożna for Female Choir" (1978), and "Poza kalendarzem for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano" (1993).

Głowski was an active member of the Polish Composers' Union and the ZAiKS Authors' Association. From 1978 to 1996, he held various leadership roles in the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Composers' Union. As an academic, he taught at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk from 1968 to 2013, serving as Dean of the Faculty of Composition and Music Theory (1981-87), Director of the Institute of Music Theory (1987-88), and Head of the Composition Department (1980-2005). He also taught at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (1980-2005), mentoring several award-winning composers.

Throughout his career, Eugeniusz Głowski received numerous honors, including the Silver Cross of Merit (1979), the Gold Cross of Merit (1985), the Ministry of Culture and Art Award (1975, 1980, 1985, 1991), the Badge of "Meritorious Cultural Activist" (1983), and the Medal of the National Education Commission (2001). In 2011, he was awarded the President of Gdańsk's Award in Culture.
