Ewa Synowiec
Ewa Synowiec was a distinguished Polish composer, music theorist, pianist, and teacher, known for her avant-garde style and contributions to classical music. Born on April 12, 1942, in Krakow, she demonstrated exceptional musical talent from a young age, possessing absolute pitch and improvisational skills. Her early music education began at the age of five, and she pursued formal studies in piano and composition at the State Higher School of Music in Krakow, earning diplomas with distinction in 1967 and 1973, respectively.

Synowiec furthered her piano studies in Paris under the tutelage of Susanne Roche and Vlado Perlemutter, thanks to a French Government scholarship. She achieved notable success in international piano competitions, securing 5th place at the Ferenc Liszt and Béla Bartók International Competition in Budapest (1966) and 2nd prize at the Maria Canals International Music Competition in Barcelona (1968).

Her career as a performer lasted until 1978, after which she focused exclusively on composing. Synowiec's debut as a composer occurred in 1972, and she quickly gained recognition, winning awards for her compositions in 1973 and 1974. Her works were performed at prestigious festivals across Europe and North America, and her music graphics were exhibited internationally.

Synowiec's compositions are characterized by their diversity and stylistic uniqueness, often incorporating avant-garde elements such as 12-tone techniques, graphic scores, and aleatoric music. Her oeuvre includes approximately 200 works, with about half being musical graphics, influenced by her poor eyesight.

Throughout her career, Synowiec was honored with several awards, including the Award of the Minister of Culture and Art, third degree (1980), and first degree (1990). She was a member of the Polish Composers' Union from 1975 and served as treasurer of its Gdańsk Branch from 1977 to 1981.

Ewa Synowiec passed away on March 6, 2021, in Gdańsk, leaving behind a legacy of innovative compositions and significant contributions to the field of music.
