Anna Prabucka-Firlej
Anna Prabucka-Firlej, born in 1950, is a distinguished Polish pianist and professor of musical arts. She graduated from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, where she studied piano under the tutelage of Professor Krystyna Jastrzębska. She achieved the title of Professor of Musical Arts in 1994 and became a full professor in 2002. From 2003 to 2020, she served as the Head of the Department of Chamber Music at the Academy.
Prabucka-Firlej has had a prolific career as both a performer and educator. She debuted at the age of 11, performing Joseph Haydn's Piano Concerto in D major with an orchestra. Her artistic endeavors have taken her to numerous music centers across Poland, Europe, and countries such as Chile, Peru, Iran, and Thailand. She has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including Siegfried Palm, Eduard Melkus, and Thomas Zehetmair, and has participated in major music festivals worldwide.
She is the founder of the Gdańsk Trio and has made significant contributions to the promotion of Polish composers, often including their works in her performances. Her discography includes eight CDs, with notable recordings such as "American Sonatas" with violinist Adam Bruderek and "Polskie Tria Romantyczne" with violinist Paula Preuss and cellist Jan Lewandowski.
Prabucka-Firlej has been involved in organizing and initiating several music competitions and festivals, such as the International Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Gdańsk and the International Piano Duo Festival. Her students have won numerous awards in chamber music competitions globally.
Her contributions to music and education have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Silver and Gold Cross of Merit, the Gloria Artis Medal, and the Order of Polonia Restituta.
