Krzysztof Olczak
Krzysztof Olczak, born on May 26, 1956, in Łódź, Poland, is a renowned composer and accordionist. He completed his instrumental studies in 1979 at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw, where he studied accordion under Włodzimierz Lech Puchnowski. That same year, he began his teaching career at the Instrumental Faculty of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk while simultaneously pursuing composition studies with Eugeniusz Głowski, earning a diploma with distinction in 1986.
Olczak is an active performer, both domestically and internationally, and has made numerous recordings for radio and television. He served as the prorector of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk and is a member of the Artistic Discipline Council of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk for the 2021–2025 term. He also collaborates with the Feliks Nowowiejski Comprehensive Music School in Gdańsk.
His notable compositions include "Manualiter" for solo accordion (1977), "Etiuda na jedno złożenie miecha" (1980), and "Szpęgawsk in memoriam" for soprano and strings (1982). Olczak's works have been performed at prestigious festivals such as Musik Biennale in Berlin and Warsaw Autumn. He has received numerous awards, including the Bronze Medal at the International Accordion Competition in Auckland (1980) and the Bronze Medal "Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis" (2014).
