Mattie Chambers
Mattie Mae Chambers, née Whatley, was a country musician and songwriter from Louisiana. She was born on August 2, 1920, and passed away on March 19, 1957, in Alexandria, Louisiana. Alongside her husband, Harvey Chambers, Mattie wrote and recorded music, notably releasing songs on Bennie Hess' Jet label in Hollywood, California, in 1955. Two of their songs, "Gumbo Jubilee" and "Crawfish Gumbo," were part of this release. The Chambers had songwriting contracts with Acuff-Rose and composed their own material. Their most successful song, "Big Sandy," was recorded in 1956.
