Lewis P. Simpkins
Lewis Conrad Simpkins, born on November 7, 1918, was an influential American A&R man and lyricist. He played a pivotal role in the music industry during the mid-20th century. Simpkins is notably recognized for writing the first lyrics for the classic instrumental "Night Train," a piece that became a rhythm and blues standard. His involvement in the music business included working in A&R for labels such as Miracle and Premium alongside Lee Egalnick. In 1951, he co-founded United Records, further cementing his legacy in the industry. Simpkins passed away on April 27, 1953, in Rochester, Minnesota.
