Steve Lukather
Steve Lukather, born Steven Lee Lukather on October 21, 1957, in San Fernando Valley, California, is an American musician renowned for his work as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the sole continuous founding member of the rock band Toto, which he co-founded in 1977 with David Paich and the Porcaro brothers. Lukather's guitar work is characterized by a "melodic and intense" style, influenced by blues-rock and jazz fusion guitarists. He has been a prolific session musician, contributing to over 1,500 albums for a diverse array of artists, including Michael Jackson's iconic album Thriller and Boz Scaggs' Silk Degrees.
Lukather began his musical journey at the age of seven when his father gifted him a Kay acoustic guitar and a Beatles album, which ignited his passion for music. He later honed his skills under the tutelage of jazz guitarist Jimmy Wyble. Throughout his career, Lukather has released nine solo albums, with his latest, Bridges, released in June 2023. He remains active in the music industry, performing with Toto and Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band. Lukather's contributions to music have earned him five Grammy Awards and an enduring legacy as one of rock's most versatile musicians.
