Charlie Foxx
Charlie James Foxx, born on October 23, 1933, in Greensboro, North Carolina, was an American rhythm and blues and soul artist best known for his work as part of the duo Inez & Charlie Foxx. Charlie began his musical journey singing with a gospel choir in the early 1950s, later joined by his sister Inez. The siblings gained fame with their hit "Mockingbird," released in 1963, which reached the top 10 on both the US rhythm and blues and pop charts. The song sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA. Despite the success of "Mockingbird," the duo struggled to replicate its success but remained popular in the Northern soul movement, especially with their single "Tightrope."
Charlie Foxx also worked as a songwriter and record producer, and after the duo disbanded, he continued in this role. Charlie passed away on September 18, 1998, in Mobile, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy as a significant figure in the soul and rhythm and blues genres.
