Dave Barbour
David Michael Barbour, born on May 28, 1912, in Long Island, New York, was an influential American jazz guitarist and banjoist, as well as a pop songwriter and actor. He began his musical career as a banjoist, performing with Adrian Rollini in 1933 and Wingy Manone in 1934. By the mid-1930s, Barbour transitioned to playing guitar, joining Red Norvo's band from 1935 to 1936. He became a sought-after studio musician, collaborating with prominent artists such as Billie Holiday, Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman.

In 1942, while part of Benny Goodman's orchestra, Barbour met and fell in love with Peggy Lee, whom he married in 1943. The couple moved to Los Angeles and became a successful songwriting duo, producing hits like "Mañana" and "It's a Good Day." Their daughter, Nicki Lee Foster, was born in 1944. Despite their professional success, Barbour's struggles with alcoholism contributed to the end of their marriage in 1951.

After his divorce from Lee, Barbour's career waned, although he continued to earn royalties from their songs. He married Marian Collier in 1960, a marriage that lasted until his death. Barbour also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as "The Secret Fury" and "Mr. Music."

Dave Barbour passed away at the age of 53 on December 11, 1965, in Malibu Beach, California, due to a hemorrhaged ulcer. He is remembered for his contributions to jazz and his collaborations with Peggy Lee.
