Gianni Cazzola
Gianni Cazzola, born on May 9, 1938, in San Giovanni in Persiceto, Italy, is a renowned Italian jazz drummer. He began playing the drums as a child, inspired by prominent jazz drummers from overseas. His professional career took off in 1957 when he joined the guitarist Franco Cerri's ensemble. The following year, he was invited by saxophonist Gianni Basso and trumpeter Oscar Valdambrini to join the Basso-Valdambrini Quintet.

Throughout his career, Cazzola has collaborated with numerous celebrated musicians, including Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Tommy Flanagan, and Dexter Gordon, among others. He has performed at various international concerts and festivals, further establishing his reputation in the jazz world. In 1988, he founded the Italian Repertory Quartet and later collaborated with pianist Dado Moroni's trio.

Cazzola has also ventured into pop music, notably performing with Pino Presti's orchestra for singer Mina. He remains active in recording and performing, and his contributions to jazz are recognized in the Treccani encyclopedia. His recent work includes the 2020 album "Three Generations," which features musicians from various age groups and pays homage to the golden era of jazz.
