Padeirinho
Osvaldo Vitalino de Oliveira, known as Padeirinho da Mangueira, was a Brazilian samba singer, songwriter, and percussionist born on March 5, 1927, in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro. He earned the nickname "Padeirinho" due to his father’s profession as a baker. After being abandoned by his mother, he spent his childhood sleeping in the bakeries where his father worked. At the age of ten, he moved to the samba stronghold of Morro da Mangueira and began writing songs around the age of thirteen. Despite never having the opportunity to attend school, Padeirinho taught himself to read and write through samba, constructing lyrics and finding rhymes. He performed his sambas in local canteens, sharing his music with the community. Padeirinho was associated with the samba school G.R.E.S. Estação Primeira de Mangueira and was involved in various recordings, including albums and compilations. He passed away on January 26, 1987, in Rio de Janeiro.
