Milan Horvat
Milan Horvat (28 July 1919 – 1 January 2014) was a distinguished Croatian conductor. Born in Pakrac, he studied under the renowned Igor Markevitch and began his professional career in 1946 with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Zagreb. In 1953, Horvat became the chief conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin, a position he held for five years. He served as Chief Conductor, Managing Director, Principal Guest Conductor, and later Lifetime Honorary Chief Conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, performing in cities such as Salzburg, Venice, Marseille, Geneva, Vienna, Graz, and across the USA. Horvat was also the chief conductor of the Opera Zagreb for a decade.

From 1970, he conducted master classes at the summer academy in Salzburg. He held the title of Honorary Conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and was the Principal Guest Conductor and an Honorary Member of the Slovenian Philharmonic from 1981. Horvat collaborated with eminent soloists including Mstislav Rostropovich, David Oistrakh, Yehudi Menuhin, and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Between 1969 and 1975, he led the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and subsequently taught orchestral conducting at the University of Music in Graz, Austria, until his retirement in 1989.
