Ludovic Spiess
Ludovic Spiess was a Romanian spinto-lyric tenor born in Cluj. He was raised in a modest family with no musical education. Spiess discovered classical music at the age of 18 in a concert hall in Brașov while working as a metal engraver. He began his musical studies in Cluj under Vasile Corpaci and Ion Mărgineanu, and later continued in Bucharest with professor Gheorghe Pașcu. Spiess married pianist Gerda Zach at a young age. After a brief period with the Army Ensemble and debuting at the Musical Theatre in Brașov, he became a soloist at the Bucharest Operetta Theatre from 1962 to 1964, performing in productions such as "Lăsați-mă să cânt" and "Lysistrata" by Gherase Dendrino, "Voievodul țiganilor" by Johann Strauss, and "Țara surâsului" by Lehar. In 1964, he furthered his studies with renowned baritone Petre Ștefănescu Goangă and became a soloist at the Romanian Opera, a position he held until 1988.
