Bao Huiqiao
Bao Huiqiao is a distinguished Chinese pianist and educator, renowned for her contributions to the world of classical music both as a performer and a mentor. She completed her undergraduate and master's degrees at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Leningrad Conservatory of Music, studying under Zhu Gong-yi and Tatiana Petrovna Kravchenko. Bao's illustrious career includes winning numerous prestigious awards, such as the First Prize in the Chinese Works Competition in 1960, Fifth Prize in the George Enescu International Piano Competition in 1961, and the Best Performance Prize in the Fourth National Competition for Music Compositions in 1985. She was also honored with "The Golden CD Prize" by the China Recording Company in 1992.
From 1970 until her retirement, Bao served as the soloist for the China Symphony Orchestra, touring extensively across China and internationally, performing in countries such as Austria, the Philippines, Singapore, Romania, and Turkey. Her influence extends beyond performance; she has been a juror for numerous international piano competitions, including the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition and the Leeds International Piano Competition.
Bao has been instrumental in nurturing young talent, with many of her students achieving success in national and international competitions. Since 2007, she has chaired the China International Piano Competition. Additionally, she has authored the book "Interviewing Other Famous Pianists throughout the World" and edited the "New Ways of Learning Piano" education series. Bao continues to contribute to the musical community as a professor of piano at the Tianjin Juilliard School and serves as an adviser to the China Musicians’ Association. Her legacy is marked by her dedication to both performance and the education of future generations of pianists.
