Jenny Jugo
Jenny Jugo, born Eugenie Walter on June 14, 1904, in Mürzzuschlag, Duchy of Styria, Austria-Hungary, was a prominent Austrian actress known for her work in German cinema. She began her acting career in 1925 and appeared in over fifty films until her retirement in 1950. Jugo initially struggled with dramatic roles but gained recognition for her performances in comedies, particularly during the late silent film era and the 1930s. Many of her films were directed by Erich Engel, and she was celebrated for portraying lively and assertive characters.
Jugo was first married to actor Emo Jugo, whose surname she retained professionally even after their brief marriage ended. Later, she married Italian actor Friedrich Benfer in 1950, with whom she frequently co-starred. After her marriage to Benfer, she retired from acting at the age of 46.
During her career, Jugo was associated with the German film studio UFA and continued to work through the Nazi era until 1943. She spent much of her later life in Bavaria and was in a relationship with producer Eberhard Klagemann, who produced her final films. In recognition of her contributions to German cinema, she received a lifetime achievement award in 1971.
Jenny Jugo passed away on September 30, 2001, in Schwaighofen, Bavaria, Germany, at the age of 97. She is buried at the Katholischer Stadtfriedhof St. Peter in Graz, Austria.
