Phillip Mitchell
Phillip Mitchell, born Leroy Phillip Mitchell on June 27, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer, often credited as Prince Phillip Mitchell. He began his musical journey in the church and later explored doo-wop, soul, and R&B. Mitchell's early career included performing with local groups like The Checkmates and The Moonlighters. After a stint in the military, he became a prominent figure in the Muscle Shoals music scene, where he wrote hits such as "It Hurts So Good" for Millie Jackson and "Starting All Over Again" for Mel and Tim.

In the mid-1970s, Mitchell signed with Atlantic Records, releasing his debut album "Make It Good" in 1978, followed by "Top of the Line" in 1979. Both albums featured singles that charted on the R&B charts, showcasing his vocal and songwriting talents. Despite critical acclaim, mainstream success eluded him, and he continued to write and produce for other artists throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Mitchell's work gained renewed appreciation among soul collectors and UK rare groove enthusiasts, with tracks like "A Star in the Ghetto" and "If We Can't Be Lovers" becoming favorites. His legacy as a craftsman of deep, emotional soul music endures, with his songs resonating with listeners who appreciate honesty and melody.
