Sonia Delfino
Sonia Delfino (1942 – 2025) was a Brazilian singer from Rio de Janeiro, recognized for her contributions to both bossa nova and the youthful pop music of the 1960s. At the age of 18, she was named the revelation singer of 1960, during the height of Celly Campello's popularity among Brazilian youth. Delfino's albums, such as "Sonia Delfino canta para a mocidade" (1960), "Alô broto!" (1960), and "Alô broto! nº 2" (1961), reflect her engagement with the pop genre. However, she also embraced bossa nova, performing standards like "Meditação" by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Newton Mendonça, and "O barquinho" by Roberto Menescal and Ronaldo Bôscoli. In 1963, she was the first to record the sambalanço "Bolinha de sabão," a major hit by Orlandivo. Delfino's career was interrupted when she married a diplomat and moved abroad, but she resumed performing in 1983 upon returning to Brazil, appearing in small clubs and participating in collective bossa nova recordings. Sonia Delfino passed away in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 82.
