Banda Blanca
Banda Blanca is a renowned musical ensemble from Honduras, formed on January 17, 1971, in San Pedro Sula. Initially starting as a rock band, they evolved by incorporating elements of merengue and punta rock into their music. The band's name, Banda Blanca, was inspired by a night club named "Garzas Blancas" and a television program of the same name, with the group adopting the name by substituting "Garzas" with "Banda."

The band achieved international fame in 1990 with their hit song "Sopa de Caracol," which topped the Billboard Top Latin Songs chart in the United States and sold approximately 1.5 million copies. This success was followed by other popular tracks like "Fiesta" and "Swing Latino," which also charted in the U.S. Their 1991 album "Baile Punta" became a number-one hit on the Tropical Albums chart. Banda Blanca's music is known for its vibrant and festive style, drawing on the Garifuna musical traditions of the Caribbean coast of Honduras.

Throughout their career, Banda Blanca has sold between two and five million records, earning them numerous accolades, including a Lo Nuestro award for Tropical – New Artist of the Year in 1991. They have performed in various international festivals and carnivals, such as the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, where they won the Gaviota de Plata award in 1992.

The original lineup included Óscar Gerardo Galindo, Juan Pompilio Tejeda Duarte, José Luis Rodríguez, Héctor Altamirano, Adán Rodríguez, and Julio Ardón, with subsequent changes bringing in members like Edgardo Cuestas, Carlos Vigil, and Armando Martínez. Banda Blanca is credited with popularizing the punta dance rhythm globally, and their influence continues to resonate in the Latin music scene.
