Ménélik
Ménélik, born Albert Tjamag on September 10, 1970, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, is a prominent Cameroonian-French rapper and singer. He moved to France at the age of nine and later befriended MC Solaar at the University of Paris VIII Saint-Denis. This friendship led to collaborations with artists such as DJ Jimmy Jay, RPM, and No Sé, marking his entry into the rap jazz scene.
In 1995, Ménélik released his debut album "Phénoménélik," which included hit singles like "Tout baigne" and "Quelle aventure." He gained further recognition by performing as an opening act for MC Solaar and touring across Europe, the USA, and Canada. His efforts were rewarded with a Victoire de la Musique award in 1996 for "Male Revelation of the Year."
His second album, "Je me souviens," was released in 1997, featuring the successful single "Bye-Bye," which became his most notable hit. Despite subsequent albums "OQP" (2000) and "E-Pop" (2001) not achieving similar success, Ménélik remained active, occasionally performing and exploring other interests like fashion and design.
In 2008, he re-emerged in the music scene under the name MNLK with the album "MNLK Project." Ménélik's contributions to hip hop have left a lasting impact on the French music landscape.
