K-Reen, born Karine Patient on January 8, 1972, in Paris, France, is a renowned French R&B and hip-hop artist with roots in French Guiana. Raised in Créteil by her mother, she began writing songs at 13, influenced by artists like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. In 1992, she joined the group Roots Neg, marking the start of her music career.
In 1993, K-Reen embarked on a solo career, contributing to the compilation "Sensitive, New Jack Swing Vol.1" in 1994, which was pivotal in introducing R&B to France. Her collaborations include work with Princess Erika, MC Solaar, and Lokua Kanza. Her 1998 singles "Tu Me Plais" with Def Bond and "Le Mensongeur" with Oxmo Puccino brought her widespread recognition. She released her debut album that year, followed by "Dimension" in 2001, featuring hits like "Prends Ma Main."
K-Reen also formed the group J-C-K with Jalane and China Moses, producing tracks for each other's albums. In 2006, she founded her label, Astrad Music, to nurture young talent and released "Old School Elixir." Her 2012 album "Himalaya" included collaborations with Youssoupha and earned her accolades at the Lindors, Guyana's music awards.
Throughout her career, K-Reen has been a prolific collaborator, working as a backing vocalist for artists like MC Solaar and Anggun, and writing and producing for others. Her fifth album, "Racines K'Raïb," released in 2015, continued to showcase her versatility and commitment to her roots.
