Metronome All Stars
The Metronome All-Stars were a distinguished ensemble of jazz musicians brought together for studio recordings by Metronome Magazine, based on the preferences of its readers' polls. These sessions took place during the years 1939–42, 1946–53, and 1956. Each session typically featured two tracks, providing each musician the opportunity to perform a solo for one chorus. The earlier recordings were characterized by a swing style, while the later sessions leaned more towards bebop. The ensemble included a rotating cast of prominent jazz figures, such as Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis, among others. These recordings captured the evolving styles of jazz over the years, from swing to bebop, and showcased the talents of some of the most influential musicians of the era.
