Berliner Sinfonie Orchester
The Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester, also known as the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, was an East-Berlin German classical orchestra founded in 1952. It was established as a rival to the Berliner Philharmoniker, which was based in West-Berlin. Over the years, the orchestra was led by several notable conductors, including Hermann Hildebrandt (1952–1959), Kurt Sanderling (1960–1977), Günther Herbig (1977–1983), Claus Peter Flor (1984–1991), Michael Schønwandt (1992–1998), and Eliahu Inbal (2001-2006). In July 2006, the orchestra was renamed the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. The ensemble was known for its performances at the Konzerthaus Berlin located at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin, Germany.
