Loris Tjeknavorian
Loris Haykasi Tjeknavorian, born on October 13, 1937, in Boroujerd, Iran, is a distinguished Iranian-Armenian composer and conductor. He is celebrated for his significant contributions to the cultural landscapes of both Iran and Armenia. Tjeknavorian's upbringing was influenced by Armenian, Iranian, and Western cultures, which is reflected in his diverse musical style.

Educated at the Vienna Music Academy and the University of Michigan, Tjeknavorian also studied under Carl Orff at the Salzburg Mozarteum. His early compositions were influenced by Aram Khachaturian and Armenian folk and sacred music. As a composer, he has created six operas, five symphonies, and numerous choral, chamber, and ballet works. His notable compositions include the opera "Rostam and Sohrab" and the ballet "Simorgh."

Tjeknavorian served as the principal conductor of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra from 1989 to 1998 and again from 1999 to 2000. His international conducting career has seen him lead orchestras across Europe, the United States, and beyond. He has made approximately 100 recordings with major labels such as RCA, Philips, and EMI.

In addition to his work with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Tjeknavorian has been involved in promoting Armenian contemporary music and has commissioned works from Armenian composers. His legacy includes a vast array of compositions and recordings that continue to influence and inspire the world of classical music.
