André Hübner-Ochodlo
André Hübner-Ochodlo, born in 1963 in Plauen, Germany, is a distinguished German-Polish actor, singer, theater director, and scenographer. He is renowned for his contributions to Yiddish culture in Poland and is the founder and director of the Teatr Atelier in Sopot, established in 1989. Ochodlo pursued his education in applied theater science at the University of Giessen under Professor Andrzej Wirth. His artistic journey included studies in Moscow and Warsaw, leading to his relocation to Poland in 1985.
Ochodlo is celebrated as one of the foremost interpreters of Yiddish songs in Poland, performing internationally in countries such as Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Israel, the USA, and Canada. His theater, Teatr Atelier, began without a fixed location, eventually finding a permanent home in Sopot in 1994. The theater is known for its summer festival, Lato teatralne Sopot, which features theatrical and musical performances.
Throughout his career, Ochodlo has collaborated with notable figures like Agnieszka Osiecka and has been recognized for his work in preserving Yiddish poetry and music. His significant theatrical productions include Polish premieres of works by Heiner Müller and George Tabori. Ochodlo's contributions extend beyond the stage, as he has been featured in media such as the ZDF program Aspekte.
