Hans Rehmstedt
Hans Rehmstedt was a German musician and orchestra leader born on November 17, 1909, in Wesermünde. He studied violin at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin during the early 1930s and subsequently played in various Berlin dance orchestras. Rehmstedt eventually formed his own dance orchestra, which performed at Café Uhlandeck and, by 1938, had expanded to eleven musicians, becoming the house band at the Berlin Eden Hotel. In 1940, he established a smaller ensemble known as "Hans Rehmstedt und seine Solisten" while continuing to make studio recordings with a big band. His recordings were released under the Electrola and Columbia labels, featuring vocalists such as Rudi Dreyer, Henriette Schäffler, Peter Igelhoff, Rudi Schuricke, and Horst Winter. One of his most famous recordings was "In Lamberts Nachtlokal" in 1938. After World War II, Rehmstedt struggled to reestablish his career but eventually became an orchestra conductor at Radio Bremen. He died in a car accident in Hannover in 1956.
