Harry Roy
Harry Roy, born Harry Lipman on January 12, 1900, in Stamford Hill, London, was a prominent British dance band leader and clarinetist known for his work from the 1920s to the 1960s. Raised in a Jewish family, he began learning piano at age seven and later studied clarinet and alto saxophone. Together with his brother Sidney, he formed the Darnswells Dance Band, performing in prestigious venues such as the Alhambra and the London Coliseum.

In the 1930s, Roy led his own band, the RKOlians, and gained fame for songs with suggestive lyrics, including "My Girl's Pussy" (1931). He married Elizabeth Brooke, known as Princess Pearl, in 1935, and appeared with her in musical films like "Everything Is Rhythm" (1936). During World War II, Roy entertained troops in the Middle East with his band, the Tiger Ragamuffins.

Despite the decline of the big band era in the 1950s, Roy continued to engage with the music scene intermittently. He ran a restaurant, the Diners' Club, which was eventually destroyed by fire. In 1969, he returned to music, leading a quartet and a Dixieland Jazz Band in Brighton. Harry Roy passed away in London on February 1, 1971.
