Little Brother
Little Brother is an influential American hip-hop duo from Durham, North Carolina, consisting of rappers Phonte (Phonte Lyshod Coleman) and Big Pooh (Thomas Jones). Originally a trio, the group included DJ and producer 9th Wonder (Patrick Denard Douthit) until his departure in 2007. Formed in 2001, Little Brother emerged from the North Carolina Central University, where the members met as part of a larger collective known as the Justus League.

The group's name, Little Brother, pays homage to their musical influences, including Native Tongues acts like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. They debuted with the track "Speed" in 2001, which set the tone for their relatable and down-to-earth lyrical content. Their first full-length album, "The Listening," released in 2003, garnered critical acclaim, particularly for 9th Wonder's production skills.

Little Brother's second album, "The Minstrel Show" (2005), marked their major-label debut with Atlantic Records and reached number 19 on Billboard's R&B/hip-hop chart. Despite 9th Wonder's departure, the group continued to find success with their third album, "Getback" (2007), which also charted highly.

After releasing "Leftback" in 2010, Phonte and Big Pooh pursued individual projects, leading to a hiatus. However, they reunited in 2018 for a surprise performance and fully reactivated Little Brother with the release of "May the Lord Watch" in 2019. Known for their alternative hip-hop style, Little Brother remains highly regarded in the hip-hop community for their lyrical prowess and innovative production.
