Eydie Gormé, born Edith Gormezano on August 16, 1928, in the Bronx, New York, was an acclaimed American singer known for her work in pop, Latin, and jazz music. She was the daughter of Sephardic Jewish parents who had roots in Turkey and Spain, which influenced her fluency in both English and Spanish. Gormé began her singing career in high school, performing with a band led by Ken Greengrass, and later worked as a Spanish interpreter.

Her professional breakthrough came in the early 1950s when she joined the Tommy Tucker and Tex Beneke bands. In 1952, she signed with Coral Records and released her first single. Her career gained further momentum when she joined The Tonight Show, where she met her future husband, Steve Lawrence. The couple married in 1957 and became a celebrated duo known as Steve and Eydie, performing on television and in venues such as Las Vegas.

Gormé's solo career was marked by hits like "Blame It on the Bossa Nova," and she earned a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She also achieved international fame with her Spanish-language recordings, particularly with Trio Los Panchos. Throughout her career, Gormé was recognized with numerous awards, including a Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award.
