M Serio
Jonathán Pérez, better known as Serio, is a prominent Chicano Rap artist from Los Angeles, California. His grandmother gave him the nickname "Serio," which means serious in Spanish, due to his serious demeanor as a child. Serio's passion for rap music began in his youth, leading him to start writing and rapping during his teenage years. He launched his professional music career in 2005, and by 2006, he released his debut album "Nightmares Turned Into Reality," featuring the successful single "I Got To Have You."
Serio has achieved significant success with his independent label, Serio Controla Records, which has released multiple solo albums and DVDs, selling millions of units worldwide. Known for his global reach, Serio has performed in major cities across the United States and in countries such as Mexico, Canada, Japan, Australia, and several European nations.
In addition to his music career, Serio made his acting debut in 2009 in the short film "Blazed" and has appeared in several documentaries about his musical journey. In 2023, he expanded his creative endeavors by publishing his first book, "The Cure To Recidivism," marking him as the first Chicano Rapper to release a book.
Serio's music often addresses social issues, as seen in his 2012 single "Don't Hate Me Because I'm Mexican," which critiques Arizona's SB 1070 law and advocates for fair treatment of Mexicans in the United States. His influence and contributions to Chicano Rap have positioned him as a leading figure in the genre.
