Jean Jal
Jean Jal, born Marie Cyrille Louis Georges Bastyns on March 23, 1908, in Visé, Belgium, was a notable French songwriter of Belgian origin. He passed away on March 28, 1984, in Buzançais, France. Adopting the pseudonym Jean Jal, he became renowned for his contributions to French music, particularly for composing "C'était une histoire d'amour," with lyrics by Henri Contet for the legendary Édith Piaf. Additionally, he penned "Il ne faut pas briser un rêve," performed by Jean Sablon and Lucienne Delyle. In 1938, Jean Jal appeared in the medium-length film "Quand le cœur chante," directed by Bernard Roland. He became a French national in 1940.
