He is an acclaimed American record producer, songwriter, musician, arranger, and composer, celebrated for his significant contributions to the music industry across various genres, including Argentine rock, Latin rock, Latin pop, R&B, pop, Latin alternative, and world music. Porter's musical journey began in his early years when his family moved to Guatemala, where he was exposed to Latin culture and music, which profoundly influenced his career.
Porter's professional breakthrough came in the 1980s when he joined A&M Records as a staff arranger and played a pivotal role in the label's Latin division, AyM Discos. He worked with prominent artists such as Maria Conchita Alonso, Luis Miguel, and Janet Jackson, translating and producing songs that bridged English and Spanish-speaking markets. His ability to cross cultural and linguistic barriers earned him a reputation as a master of musical translation.
Throughout his illustrious career, Porter has collaborated with an array of international stars, including Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin, Bon Jovi, Janet Jackson, and Selena. His work on Santana's album "Supernatural" and his production of popular Spanish-language singles for Ricky Martin are particularly notable. Porter has been honored with six Grammy Awards and two Latin Grammy Awards, highlighting his exceptional talent and influence in the music industry.
In addition to his production work, Porter is a performer and recording artist, having released his own music, including his second studio album, "CRUZANDEROS." He is also a founding member of Oneness, a non-profit organization that promotes racial unity through music, arts, and education. A practitioner of the Baháʼí Faith, Porter integrates his spiritual beliefs into his work, advocating for unity and collaboration in the creative process.
Porter's contributions extend beyond the studio; he has been involved in humanitarian projects, such as producing the Spanish-language version of Michael Jackson's "What More Can I Give," a song aimed at promoting global unity and supporting victims of the September 11 attacks. His career, spanning over four decades, reflects a dedication to excellence and a commitment to using music as a tool for cultural connection and social change.
