F Martens
Frederick Herman Martens (1874–1932) was a prominent American music journalist, librettist, and translator. Born in New York, USA, Martens was of German heritage and spent significant parts of his life in Rutherford and Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. He is best known for his extensive contributions to classical music literature, having published numerous articles and books, particularly focusing on violin and opera.

Martens authored "Violin Mastery" in 1919, a notable work featuring interviews with famous violinists like Jascha Heifetz and Fritz Kreisler. He also contributed to the "Little Biographies Series" with a piece on A.E. Uhe in 1922. As a translator, Martens was involved in bringing various cultural works to English-speaking audiences, including "The Chinese Fairy Book" (1921), "The Brazilian Fairy Book" (1926), and "The Norwegian Fairy Book" (1922).

His work extended to children's literature, where he translated and edited fairy tales from diverse cultures, such as Chinese and Nordic folklore. Martens' translation of "Gesu Bambino" in 1917 is another testament to his versatile engagement with music and literature.
