Josh Wink
Josh Wink, born Joshua Winkelman on April 20, 1970, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a renowned American electronic dance music DJ, producer, and label owner. His career began at the young age of 13 when he worked as an apprentice to a DJ in Philadelphia. Wink's early musical education included piano and clarinet lessons, and he developed a passion for DJing, eventually teaching himself to mix beats. By 1988, he had met fellow DJ King Britt, and together they began creating original tracks.

Wink is a pioneering figure in the American rave scene of the early 1990s, known for his contributions to the tribal forms of techno and house music. In 1994, he co-founded Ovum Recordings with King Britt, which became a significant platform for his music and other artists. His breakthrough came in 1995 with the release of several hits, including "Don't Laugh," "I'm Ready," and "Higher State of Consciousness," the latter of which topped dance charts in Europe and became a defining track of the techno scene.

Wink's style is a blend of big beat, electronic, acid house, drum and bass, and breakbeat, characterized by its experimental nature and the use of innovative production techniques. He has been influenced by the music of Kraftwerk, 1980s synthpop, and late-1980s Chicago house music. His work often incorporates elements of mistake theory, using unexpected sounds and effects to create tension in his music.

Throughout his career, Wink has released several acclaimed albums, including "Left Above the Clouds" and "Herehear," and has produced numerous club hits. He is also known for his remixes of artists such as Stabbing Westward, FC Kahuna, Paul Oakenfold, Moby, Towa Tei, Ladytron, and Depeche Mode.

Josh Wink remains an influential figure in the electronic music scene, continually pushing the boundaries of the genre with his innovative sound and commitment to musical education through his label, Ovum Recordings.
