Jean-Sébastien Abaldonato, widely recognized by his stage name Sébastien El Chato, is a French singer and guitarist of Romani and Spanish descent, born on April 5, 1961, in Marseille, France. He began his musical journey at the tender age of five, performing in his hometown. His early career was marked by a significant appearance in Spain alongside Manolo Escobar, and at eight years old, he was introduced to the French public by the renowned singer Dalida.
El Chato gained fame in 1978 with a series of gitane songs and became a familiar face on French television throughout the 1980s. His 1987 album "Je l’aime" achieved substantial commercial success, followed by other popular albums such as "Imagine" and "Le cœur d’une mère." His compilation album "Best of Gipsy" found international success, particularly in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.
In addition to his recording career, Sébastien El Chato has been involved in French musical theater. Notably, he portrayed Count Capulet in the 2001 production of "Roméo et Juliette, de la haine à l'amour" and appeared in "Les enfants du soleil" in 2004. His musical contributions continued with the release of "Gipsy Rumbas" in 2011 and the "Venga Venga" collection in 2013, both of which charted in France.
