Carol Welsman is a renowned Canadian jazz vocalist and pianist, born on September 29, 1960, in Toronto, Ontario. Coming from a musical lineage, she is the granddaughter of Frank S. Welsman, the founder and first conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the sister of composer John Welsman. Her early education in classical piano led her to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she majored in piano performance. Furthering her studies, she received a grant to study voice in Paris with Christiane Legrand.

Welsman's career began in earnest upon her return to Toronto in 1990, where she joined the jazz performance faculty at the University of Toronto and established her own music production company, Welcar Music. Her debut album, "Lucky to Be Me," was released in 1995, featuring jazz standards and original compositions. Over the years, she has released numerous albums, with highlights including "I Like Men: Reflections of Miss Peggy Lee," which was recognized as a Top 5 Album Pick of the Year 2009 by USA Today.

Welsman has been nominated six times for the Juno Awards and has received accolades such as the National Jazz Awards’ Jazz Vocalist of the Year in 2002 and the Berklee College of Music's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003. She is celebrated for her multilingual singing abilities, performing in English, Portuguese, French, Italian, and Spanish, and has collaborated with notable artists like Herbie Hancock. Her work extends beyond performance; she has written lyrics for artists such as Ray Charles and Nicole Scherzinger.
