Vincent Calloway
Vincent Calloway is an American musician best known as one half of the R&B duo Calloway, alongside his brother Reggie Calloway. Born on January 5, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Vincent grew up in a musically inclined family, with influences from his father, who played the trumpet, an uncle who played keyboards, and an aunt who sang opera. Vincent and Reggie began their musical journey by writing songs and forming bands during their teenage years. They attended Kentucky State University, where they formed the synth-funk band Midnight Star, achieving significant success in the early to mid-1980s with the multi-platinum album "No Parking on the Dance Floor."
After their tenure with Midnight Star, the Calloway brothers focused on solo projects and songwriting for other artists, crafting hits for acts like Klymaxx, The Whispers, Teddy Pendergrass, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Natalie Cole, and Levert. In the late 1980s, they formed their own group, Calloway, and achieved a major hit with "I Wanna Be Rich," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990. Despite subsequent releases, the duo's chart success waned, and they shifted their focus to production work. Vincent Calloway's contributions to the music industry, particularly within the R&B genre, remain influential.
